WASHINGTON, June 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressional leaders are working to finalize the U.S. State and Foreign Operations Budget for FY2017 with a mark-up in the Senate Appropriations State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Subcommittee scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, June 28 and full Senate Appropriations Committee mark-up scheduled for June 30. House committee action is expected to follow the week of July 5. This will be the final budget for the Obama administration and an important demonstration of congressional priorities on current global development and humanitarian relief challenges.
To provide a constructive framework for Congressional debates over U.S. Foreign Operations funding levels, InterAction annually publishes Choose to Invest – a special online tool featuring a detailed account-by-account funding recommendation across more than 35 U.S. international development and humanitarian response programs. Each budget account profile includes:
- A specific funding recommendation built on decades of field experience by InterAction members;
- A list of key program facts and a chart of previous funding levels; and
- A story illustrating the impact of the program in helping empower vulnerable communities across the globe.
InterAction has recently relaunched Choose to Invest with a new, print-friendly PDF summary for each budget account as part of its ongoing efforts to increase the accessibility and reach of the tool. InterAction experts are also available, upon request, to members of the media for comment and analysis on press questions related to development and humanitarian relief priorities in the FY 2017 U.S. foreign operations budget.
