Intellectual Property Litigator, Lora Moffatt, Joins Crowell & Moring's New York Office
WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the addition of partner Lora A. Moffatt to the firm's Intellectual Property Group and its New York office. Moffatt is an experienced intellectual property (IP) litigator whose practice focuses on patent, trademark, trade secrets, and copyright litigation, as well as trademark counseling and prosecution. Moffatt joins from Dentons where she was a partner and co-leader of the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group, having served as chair of the New York IP practice at Salans prior to that firm combining with Dentons.
"Lora is a talented and versatile IP litigator who has successfully handled cases across the full spectrum of IP disciplines. Her experience is not only a terrific complement to our team in New York, but will also be an asset to our clients across the country and internationally. Lora adds valuable depth to our IP practice, particularly with regard to trademark litigation and counseling," said Mark Supko, chair of Crowell & Moring's Intellectual Property Group.
Moffatt advises a wide range of clients, from individual inventors, designers and artists to multinational corporations, on patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters. She regularly handles all manner of IP disputes, focusing on patent, trademark and related unfair competition actions. Her experience spans several industries and markets including luxury goods, retail, jewelry, fashion, multi-media, publishing, computer hardware and software, food and beverage, and financial services.
"Lora's arrival is contributing to the palpable energy and enthusiasm accompanying Crowell & Moring's continuing growth in New York. With more than 23 years of experience handling intellectual property litigation and trials for domestic and international companies, Lora adds even greater depth to our extensive capabilities in IP and other business-related litigation. She further enhances our ability to provide comprehensive legal services to our clients, particularly in the luxury, consumer goods, and retail sectors," said Edwin Baum, head of Crowell & Moring's New York office and Commercial Litigation Group partner.
Moffatt also has a particular focus handling matters related to patent, trademark and copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and inter partes disputes before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Additionally, she has experience counseling clients through pre-litigation work including advising on, developing and implementing strategies to achieve her clients' objectives.
"Joining Crowell & Moring is an exciting opportunity for me to broaden my service to clients with capabilities across diverse practice areas. The firm has top-notch talent throughout its ranks, and I am especially excited to join the IP Group, not only working with my colleagues in the New York office, but with an impressive group of lawyers across the firm," said Moffatt. "Crowell & Moring's approach to incorporating award-winning, innovative billing practices is another aspect of the firm that my clients and I highly value."
In addition to her practice, Moffatt is a member of the International Trademark Association, the American Bar Association and International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys. She earned her B.S. from Gannon University, cum laude, and her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
Moffatt's arrival to Crowell & Moring follows the arrival of former acting and deputy director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and acting and deputy under secretary of commerce for intellectual property, Teresa Stanek Rea, who recently returned to the firm's IP Group. Corporate Group and Commercial Real Estate Practice partners, Sahra Dalfen and Jody Saltzman, also joined the firm's New York office in recent months.
