FARGO, N.D., Aug. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Integrity Windows and Doors has named the winners of its 2017 Red Diamond Achiever Awards – an annual competition that honors the exceptional work of licensed builders, remodelers and architects who use Integrity windows and doors in their projects.
A panel of nationally recognized judges selected the 2017 winners. The panel included Lou Manfredini, DIY expert, "Today Show" contributor and host of several home-improvement TV shows, along with Marvin Companies Director of Corporate Strategy and Design Christine Marvin, Fine Homebuilding Consulting Editor Brian Pontolilo and Shawn McCadden, a nationally-known speaker, business trainer, columnist and award-winning remodeler.
"This year's winning projects ranged from coastal homes to a modern farmhouse and illustrated the wide range of Integrity products' functional capabilities, but also the diversity of style applications," said Christine Marvin. "We congratulate each of the seven winners on their use of Integrity's superior windows and doors in these outstanding homes designed to outperform the harsh elements of Mother Nature."
The diversity in style and application in this year's entries was a nod to many of the industry's most popular home and design trends. Open stair treads were coupled with large fixed-glaze windows for expansive views. Experimentation with unexpected wood accents showed a renewed appreciation for natural materials like unfinished Eastern White Cedar siding that pairs perfectly with the windows' Pebble Gray exterior finish. Many winning projects were on coasts or in areas with harsh weather conditions, and Integrity windows and doors provided the opportunity to achieve popular looks with a fiberglass material durable enough to withstand severe storms.
The projects were judged on outstanding creativity, unique architecture, complexity, sustainability and solutions to construction challenges. From a field of more than 139 entries, the judging panel selected the following seven Red Diamond Achiever winners:
- Layton Residence – Bethany Beach, Del.; Architect: SEA Studio Architects
The owners of this modern home wanted to create a sustainable and fun beach retreat. A challenge that added a layer of complexity to the design involved the orientation of the house between the street and the canal. A glassy stair tower made up of Integrity IMPACT (IZ3) windows was designed to funnel southern light from the front of the house into the great room on the back of the home. - Sound Beach House – Sound Beach, N.Y.; Architect: GF55 Partners
This waterfront home 110 feet above the seashore on Long Island Sound is exposed to very strong winds, rain and snow, so the windows and doors required high tensile and flexural strength properties, energy efficiency and long-lasting durability to protect it from the elements. Integrity Sliding Patio Doors and a variety of Integrity windows were used exclusively for their ability to stand up to the harsh coastal climate. - Gallery Addition – Owls Head, Maine; Architect: Priestley + Associates Architecture
Two existing traditional white-clapboard houses were connected with a distinctly fresh, contemporary addition for this unique project. The two-story addition was positioned to afford outstanding ocean views, as well as create ample gallery and hanging space for the owner's art collection. Adding to the success of the project were the clean design and sharp detail of the Integrity Wood-Ultrex windows and doors. - Blue Water – Valley, Neb.; Builder: Sierra Homes
The homeowner initially wanted to build a one-story ranch home, but due to a limiting lot size, ended up designing a house with a variety of roof styles, creating architectural interest. Integrity windows and doors were ideal for this project for several reasons, but most importantly to provide the look of a steel-clad window with durability that won't be damaged by severe storms. - Family Farmhouse – Brunswick, Maine; Architect: Whitten Architects
With three small children and active parents, this family was ready to build a home with room to grow and play. The main floor of this modern farmhouse-style residence spans east to west, maximizing solar exposure to the south with large Integrity Casement, Awning and Double Hung windows. The bright and open concept provides clear sight lines from the kitchen to the living and dining spaces, ending at the screened-in porch. - Modern Cedar Addition – Arlington, Va.; Architect: Jon Hensley Architects
A renovation and addition seamlessly connects old and new, inside and out. The addition consists of a master suite, dining room and screened-in porch, each boasting expansive windows and screens from Integrity. The addition is a dramatic counterpoint to the existing house, transforming the living space from within. - Wrightsville Beach – Wilmington, N.C.; Architect: Kersting Architecture
The owners wanted to have a contemporary design for their house, but with an exterior that also fit into the surrounding beach community. The interior of the home was designed to reflect calmness and minimalism in order to be subservient to art and ocean views, all with the assistance from Integrity windows and doors.
Red Diamond Achiever Award winners will receive a profile on the Integrity website and its social media channels, a VIP trip for two to Minneapolis and Warroad, Minn., for a Marvin Windows and Doors facilities tour and awards ceremony, and a beautiful glass award that features a picture of their project. A cash donation will also be made on behalf of each winner to a charity of their choice.
