Integrating Machine Data with Enterprise Systems: A Top Priority for Leading Companies
New Axeda Study Reveals Organization-Wide Plans for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Data for R&D, Sales, Product Marketing, Operations, and Service Roles
FOXBORO, Mass., Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A new study from Axeda Corporation, the leading cloud-based service and software for managing connected products and delivering machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, finds that integration of M2M data with ERP/CRM systems is a top priority for connected enterprises. According to the survey, 67 percent of M2M adopters are interested, planning, or scheduled to integrate M2M data with back-end systems – enabling the data to be leveraged by many functions across the enterprise.
When product and machine data feeds directly into business systems, it creates an array of new touch points for the organization to gain deeper insights and streamline processes. Operational teams can track, monitor, and manage assets. Service teams can reduce support costs and increase service revenue. Marketing and sales teams gain accurate insight into customer needs. R&D teams can mitigate the risk of defects.
The increasing focus on back-end integration represents a significant jump in the maturity and tangible value of M2M adoption, which started as a tool to improve operational efficiency for service, and has moved front-and-center as a strategic initiative for connected enterprises. Machine data is now a source of valuable business insight across the enterprise to fuel product innovation and enhance customer relationships.
"We believe M2M data integration with enterprise systems is a game-changer for companies," said Robin Duke-Woolley, CEO of Beecham Research. "It reveals exactly what's happening at the customer site – allowing organizations to connect the dots in ways not previously possible."
Integrated Machine Data Bridges Functions and Workflows
The Axeda survey finds that respondents are increasingly sharing M2M data with multiple roles in their company, looking to gain the competitive advantage that comes with interconnectedness.
Socializing machine data with peers in Research & Development was on top of the list, with 74 percent of respondents naming it the business function they're most likely to share connected product data with, followed by operations (59 percent), product marketing (43 percent), and sales (35 percent). With multiple departments leveraging M2M data, organizations are better equipped to develop new, innovative products, deliver a superior customer experience, and identify upsell opportunities.
"When savvy M2M adopters use machine data to unify functional roles within their organization, it accelerates growth, creates opportunities for brand differentiation, and impacts the company's core culture by creating a social enterprise," said Dan Murphy, Axeda's vice president of marketing. "Having insight into how each and every customer interacts with your products is an enormous competitive advantage, and sharing that advantage across the enterprise enhances all business functions."
