Intalio Announces Jetty Support for WebSocket
New implementation enhances two way communications across browsers, making real-time web applications more easily scalable
PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Intalio, Inc., the Enterprise Cloud Company, today announced Jetty support for WebSocket. Jetty-7.0.1 has been extended with a WebSocket server implementation based on the same scalable asynchronous IO infrastructure of Jetty and integrated into the Jetty Servlet container. Jetty is now able to communicate using the proposed WebSocket standard, enhancing performance of real-time web applications.
WebSocket came out of work on HTML5 by the What Working Group to specify a mechanism to allow two way communications between browsers. It is currently being standardized at the W3C for the WebSocket API and by the IETF for the WebSocket protocol and is expected to be supported by releases of Firefox and Google's Chrome Browser in the near future.
WebSocket is fully integrated into the Jetty HTTP server and servlet container, so a Servlet or Handler can process and accept a request to upgrade a HTTP connection to a WebSocket connection. Applications components created by standard web applications can then send and receive datagrams over the WebSocket with non blocking sends and receives.
"We are thrilled to introduce this leading edge implementation of the WebSocket standard for Servlet developers," said Adam Lieber, General Manager of the Intalio|Works division of Intalio. "Implemented in the standard Jetty server, the industry can continue to develop its products without disruption, but with the ability to upgrade connections from uni-directional to bi-directional opportunistically as support spreads. Developers won't need two separate work streams or releases to deal with communication modes."
More information on Jetty is available on the Intalio|Works website. Jetty can be downloaded from the Webtide website. Professional Services, Training, Support and Consulting for Jetty are available from Intalio|Works.
