BEDFORD, Mass., March 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Instrumentation Laboratory (IL), a company of the Werfen Group, today announced total worldwide sales in 2013 of $741.1M US (€558.2M). In its two major business segments, Hemostasis and Critical Care Diagnostics, IL achieved significant growth of 20.6% and 5.9%, respectively. Additionally in 2013, the Company shipped a record number of their flagship GEM Premier Family and ACL TOP Family of systems.
Pivotal to IL's success has been the Company's transition to a direct business model in North America, China and Australia for its Hemostasis product line, over the past two years. Furthering this effort, the Company also transitioned to direct marketing, sales and service in Japan, effective January 1, 2014.
"We now have a complete direct distribution operation in all major markets around the world. This has catalyzed our tremendous growth and strengthened our competitive position," said Ramon Benet, CEO at IL. "Other key growth drivers are our innovative and automated products in both Hemostasis and Critical Care diagnostics. They allow our customers to increase their efficiency, while enhancing quality of care, a goal of ever-increasing significance in the year ahead."
IL has consistently led innovation in the Hemostasis reagent market since the introduction of its first fully automated Hemostasis analyzer, the ACL® 810, in 1985. Today, IL is the number one manufacturer of instruments and reagents worldwide, providing direct support to more than 10,000 Hemostasis labs. The ACL TOP Family offers a standardized platform for efficiency and flexibility and includes: ACL TOP 300 CTS, ACL TOP 500 CTS and ACL TOP 700 CTS/LAS. In 2014, the Company introduced ACL TOP Software 5.1 with a unique set of features to help laboratories improve Quality Management and Laboratory Accreditation.
Additionally, IL recently introduced the ACL AcuStar® system, the first chemiluminescent immunoassay analyzer delivering full automation to specialty Hemostasis testing. Further, their HemosIL® reagent line includes the most sophisticated automated assays for the diagnosis and management of coagulopathies, and in 2013, IL continued this trend. Several novel assays were introduced including: HemosIL FDP, HemosIL AcuStar VWF: Ag and HemosIL AcuStar VWF RCo.
In Critical Care diagnostics, sales of IL's flagship GEM Premier 4000 and GEM Premier 3500 systems continued to grow steadily throughout the world spurred by iQM®, the first and only automated, active total quality management system. In addition, their GEMweb Plus 200 Custom Connectivity software was a significant asset in the Company's success in 2013, offering lab managers complete control of their analyzers from any PC or GEM Premier system, operator certification and advanced regulatory management. In addition, the Company launched the new GEMweb Plus 300/400 Connectivity solution in Europe. IL has introduced innovation to the Critical Care market for over fifty years, from the first direct-reading pH/blood gas analyzer; the invention of CO-Oximetry; the first information management system for blood gas; to the first standardized Critical Care testing platform for all hospital locations.
