Institute for International Sport Names Fourth Annual Sports Education Literary Honorees
KINGSTON, R.I., Jan.17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Institute for International Sport at the University of Rhode Island has selected its honorees for its Fourth Annual "Sports Education Literary Awards."

The Institute initiated the award to focus on writing that brings to the fore various issues surrounding sport and education. Past winners include Jack Ridl (Losing Season), Tom Farrey (Game On), James Hirsch (Willie Mays: The Life, the Legend), and Buster Olney (How Lucky Can You Be: The Story of Coach Don Meyer).
Paz Magat, the Deputy Director of the Institute for International Sport and Chair of the Selection Committee stated, "We feel that this year's group of honorees is extraordinary in every way. While there are many authors who contributed to the subject of sports education in 2011, we feel these honorees published exceptional work that will add greatly to important conversations in contemporary sport."
As the landscape of sports writing continues to evolve, the Institute for International Sport will continue to honor writers annually who publish on various platforms and recognize great contributors such as George Vecsey who paved the way for sport in society to become part of the sports writing field.
