SEATTLE, Jan. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Inspirus Credit Union donated nearly $700,000 to Washington's education community in 2018.
Inspirus Credit Union's mission of giving back to education goes back 82 years when the credit union was founded by a Seattle Public School Teacher in 1936. Today, with nearly 80,000 members, the credit union still gives back to worthy educational causes across Washington State.
"Giving back to education is part of our DNA," said Inspirus Credit Union President and CEO Scott Adkins. "Last year was a record year of giving at Inspirus, and we're grateful to be able to contribute our time, talents, and dollars to support education in our state."
Donations from Inspirus supported a variety of education-based initiatives, ranging from financial contributions to support teachers' education grant requests, to in-kind donations of backpacks and school supplies for homeless students. Additionally, Inspirus team members volunteered more than 400 hours throughout the year.
"It's important that our team members have the opportunity to get involved with the community and support our mission by giving their time to help those in need," said Adkins.
Monetary donations totaled $651,619.95 in 2018, and supported education at every level.
More than $300,000 supported K-12 education, helping classrooms continue to be a great place to learn.
More than $106,000 supported colleges and universities statewide, providing resources to students who were in need of assistance with tuition, purchasing textbooks, and more.
Nearly $110,000 sustained community programs that help students thrive in school. These programs provide resources such as weekend meals for students who might otherwise go without food, and gives students the opportunity to engage in real life business simulations, gaining exposure to the corporate world.
Monetary, in-kind, and volunteer donations from Inspirus supported hundreds of teachers and thousands of students in 2018.
"It's so rewarding to know that the work we do every day allows us to give back to education and provide students with imperative resources so they can thrive in the classroom," said Adkins.
