Inspiring Healthcare Stories Emerge from the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority's Annual I Am Patient Safety Contest
The Authority Recognizes Pennsylvania Healthcare Workers for their Commitment to Patient Safety
HARRISBURG, Pa., March 9, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Each year, the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority highlights individuals or teams from Pennsylvania healthcare facilities for exhibiting a personal commitment to patient safety.
This year's 14 individual winners or teams, chosen from 184 nominations, were selected according to criteria that include a strongly described and discernible impact, an evident commitment to patient safety, a strong patient-safety culture, and a noticeable initiative in regards to patient safety efforts.
From actions lending to safer medication processes and decreases in healthcare-acquired infections, to efforts resulting in better surgical outcomes and improvements in patient-safety culture, each story reveals a responsiveness to patient safety deserving of recognition.
"While patient safety is a national priority in healthcare, the stories of healthcare workers who have exhibited an exceptional commitment to patient safety can go unheard. The Authority is proud to create the opportunity for those stories to be heard and for those individuals to be celebrated each year," says the Authority's executive director, Regina Hoffman.
The Authority publicly recognizes each winner leading up to Patient Safety Awareness Week 2017 (March 12-18), through social media campaigns, individualized posters, and a formal award ceremony at the Authority's March Board Meeting, to be held March 16, 2017.
"This year marks our fourth annual I Am Patient Safety contest, and the participation from healthcare facilities has increased over the years. Our hope is that while the Authority continues to educate healthcare workers to help prevent the issues that can go wrong in patient safety, that we always find a way to highlight what goes right," says Hoffman.
