Insight Oregon Hosts "Chill Graduation" Celebration for Class of 2016

PORTLAND, Ore., June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For many, high school graduation is an event for reflecting and celebrating – reflecting on the hard work and academic achievement over the past years, and celebrating the opportunities the future holds for graduates.

For Insight Oregon-Painted Hills (ISOR-PH) and Insight School of Oregon-Alternative Option (ISOR-ALT) who have completed their academics online and developed friendships virtually, graduation is also an opportunity to meet in-person – many for the first time.

The graduation theme for the 2016 event is "Chill Graduation", will set a relaxing tone and fun environment for students to mingle, meet and connect. Following the formal ceremony, students and families are invited to continue the celebration by attending a picnic where there will be games and food available.

"Because our students are traveling from all corners of the state to attend graduation we wanted to host a fun event where they could meet and engage with one another," said Interim Head of School JD McMahan. "Also, it is a chance for ISOR staff to congratulate their students on this great accomplishment!"

ISOR provides a flexible learning environment for students in grades 7-12, allowing them to complete their school work on a schedule that works best for them. While working with the award-winning K¹² curriculum, Oregon state-certified teachers provide assistance helping students fill in skill gaps and move toward high school graduation.

Three students were selected by their peers to represent the Class of 2016. Addressing the 2016 graduating class are Rachel Rodreguiez and Stacey Strandberg. Rodreguiez intends to earn her biology degree and pursue a career as a herpetologist, while Strandberg is going to college to become a physical therapist. Graduating lead peer mentor Jaymee Weisser has written a letter to the students which will be published in the program. Weisser is going to college to pursue her criminal justice degree.
