Inova Health System to Feature Excel Medical's BedMasterEx™ Medical Device Integration Solution for Epic EHR System at Epic UGM2015
JUPITER, Fla., Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Excel Medical (Excel), the leader in Next Generation Medical Device IntegrationTM, today announces its BedMasterEx™ medical device data integration (MDI) solution will be the technology case study presented by Rebecca E. Arthur from Inova Health Systems at the Epic Users' Group Meeting (Epic UGM2015). The annual invitation-only Epic event takes place in Verona, WI, from August 31 to September 3. Ms. Arthur's, presentation, themed "Electronic Cardiac Waveform and Strip Integration," is on Tuesday, September 1.
Ms. Arthur, who is Manager, Biomedical Information Systems, and an expert in medical device and system integration, has been in healthcare for over 11 years working within the biomedical engineering field. She leads the medical device integration team at Inova Health System, as well as supporting various clinical systems throughout Inova. She also is Epic Bridges certified.
Inova Health implemented the BedMasterEx solution to integrate with the hospital's Epic EHR in order to optimize cardiac monitoring and improve patient safety across the health system. The rollout of BedMasterEx will ultimately span all five Inova hospitals, representing more than 825 monitored beds.
Like many hospitals today, Inova was facing a multitude of challenges related to effective capture, retention, utilization, and communication of high-value patient data. It identified the need for a solution that would integrate bedside monitoring data from telemetry and ICU areas into the EHR. BedMasterEx turned out to be the solution that provided this functionality.
Ms. Arthur said, "What started out as part of our Epic MDI project for improving patient data transfer and storage capabilities quickly expanded to several use cases once we started using the BedMasterEx platform and saw the breadth of what it could do. BedMasterEx also facilitated going paperless in regards to cardiac monitor strips.
"The BedMasterEx platform allows our clinicians, techs and nurses to communicate patient data more effectively, trend and view cardiac waveforms with ease, and archive this critical information for future reference and use."
BedMasterEx, helps automate the cardiac rhythm strip documentation process and ensures that the right cardiac strip is matched to the right patient's electronic chart by eliminating the manual steps for paper data collection. Electronic maintenance of the cardiac waveforms also means that nurses and clinicians have access to patient data immediately, or retrospectively from hospital workstations or computer-on-wheels.
