MILWAUKEE, Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Briggs & Stratton Corporation's (NYSE:BGG) Mow 'N' Stow engine, exclusively on Toro® Recycler® mowers with SmartStow™, was chosen as a winner in the home category of Popular Science's 27th Annual Top 100: Best of What's New Awards.
Every year Popular Science chooses the top 100 innovations from among thousands of entries. Judged on significance of innovation, quality of design, originality, ambition and scope of the project, the 100 winners make up thirteen categories, including engineering, entertainment, green, health and home, among others.
Briggs & Stratton's Mow 'N' Stow engine technology allows consumers to fold and store their Toro Recycler mower with SmartStow upright, requiring 70% less storage space than a traditional mower. Specific design innovations included redesigned vents and new oil seals to keep oil and gas in place when the engine is stored upright.
"All of our innovations are based on what we hear directly from our consumer research and Mow 'n' Stow is no exception," says Briggs & Stratton Vice President of Marketing and Planning, Rick Zeckmeister. "In partnership with Toro, we literally changed the way people will store their mower, which gives them more garage space — something they said they desperately need. Receiving this recognition from the nationally renowned publication Popular Science further proves this is a breakthrough innovation."
"Our partnership with Briggs & Stratton allows us to provide homeowners with an innovative solution," explains Wade Tollison, Jr., senior marketing manager at Toro. "Everyone can use more room in their garage. The Recycler with SmartStow literally gives you more space, making it both revolutionary and practical."
The Best of What's New issue is one of Popular Science's bestselling issues of the year, and a longtime media favorite. Each year, Best of What's New winners are featured in local and national media interviews, generating tens of millions of media impressions. Popular Science editors have promoted Best of What's New through appearances on The CBS Early Show, CNN, Fox News Channel, National Public Radio, WCBS, WABC, and Good Day New York. Best of What's New winners have leveraged their awards to generate coverage in some of the nation's top newspapers, including The New York Times, USA Today, Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times.
