SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden, March 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Scania once again excels in innovation as the leader in patents. In 2017, Scania submitted 243 patent applications to the Swedish Patent and Registration Office, more than any other company in Sweden. Meanwhile, Scania was granted 295 patents last year, by far most in Sweden.
"This clearly shows Scania's innovative capacity," says Claes Erixon, Head of R&D at Scania. "Our company aims to be the driving force in the shift towards sustainable transport and with this in mind we are constantly developing our services and technologies."
The majority of patent applications are related to vehicle control systems, particularly for improved cruise control features and gearchanging strategies. A quarter of the patent applications concern connected and autonomous vehicles. "We made great progress in 2017 and we will continue to innovate in 2018 as we further explore the huge potential of digitalisation and big data," says Erixon. "We're very proud of our past, and excited about our future."
