A Chilean store will be the venue of an exhibition in which eight artisans and Chilean producers will show their prize-winning creations
NEW YORK, Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Award-winning handcraft made by six Chilean artisans and designers will be showcased on November 18-22 in Soho, New York, in an exhibition supported by the Chilean Trade Commission in New York -ProChile- presenting over fifty innovative and exclusive pieces of jewelry, accessories, clothing and furniture made of native and traditional materials and techniques.

The exhibition will launch with an open reception welcoming the winners of the Second National Contest of Design and Innovation in Handcraft – CREA, on Thursday November 18 at the Chilean store and event center Puro Chile (221 Centre Street, NYC) from 6pm-9pm. Chilean born and New York-based designer Sebastian Errázuriz will be present to discuss the future of Chilean design. A selection of Chilean wines and passed hors d'oeuvres will be served. The objective of the contest is to encourage Chilean designers to work on traditional crafts creating innovative design products that can be commercialized in new markets, boosting the artisan's business skills and economic development. Each product represents the Chilean identity from a new design viewpoint in the year of the country's Bicentennial celebrations.
The winners were selected by specialized jury which chose the most outstanding pieces for each category: Furniture, Clothing and Accessories, Jewelry, and Practical and Decorative Objects. In all these areas the criteria used for selecting the winners was design, technique, sales factor and business capacity of the pieces presented by each competitor.
Together with the opportunity to show their creations in New York -a recognized city of fashion and design- the winners in each category received US$7500 and the awards winners of the Innovation, Woman Creator and Identity award were granted US$3500.
The event is organized by the Technical Cooperation Service of the State of Chile - SERCOTEC, with the support of the Chilean Trade Commission in New York - ProChile and ED magazine, a publication specialized in design and handcraft.
