Innovation District Officially Welcomes Babson College to Boston
WELLESLEY, Mass., Sept. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Boston's Innovation District and Mayor Thomas M. Menino welcomed new neighbor, Babson College, into its Summer Street location as Babson College officially opened the site for graduate school courses, lectures and events.
This satellite campus is in addition to Babson's home base in Wellesley, MA, and its satellite campus in San Francisco.
Babson Boston will serve as the academic anchor to help fuel further growth in the Innovation District, which has swiftly become one of Boston's fastest growing and most energetic neighborhoods.
Mayor Menino, Boston Redevelopment Authority chief Peter Meade, Babson President Len Schlesinger, Dean Raghu Tadepalli, Ph.D. and Alisa Boguslavskaya, a two-time Babson graduate and co-founder of Fetchmob, were among the dozens of community and business leaders on-hand at the opening event.
"Nobody creates jobs like entrepreneurs, and nobody creates entrepreneurs like Babson," said Mayor Menino. "The inclusion of a top-tier academic institution here in the Innovation District is a key part of the supportive infrastructure we are building and providing to the people and businesses in this neighborhood. Babson's expertise and partnership undoubtedly will help us fuel even more connectivity and growth across this district."
"Babson is a small school that does big things, and we have big dreams for Boston," said Raghu Tadepalli, Ph.D., Dean of Babson's F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business. "We look forward to fully integrating this new campus into the Innovation District and working closely with our students and others to support their efforts to create opportunities to succeed and make a difference in our highly uncertain, rapidly changing world."
About the Innovation District
Boston's Innovation District, 1,000 acres on the South Boston Waterfront, is a growing home to startup, research-based, and other innovation companies. In 2010, Mayor Thomas M. Menino launched the Innovation District strategy to enhance already strong opportunities for innovation companies in Boston and the region. Under his leadership, the City of Boston has worked to attract a cluster of innovative companies, to build live/work housing for their employees, and to support a social infrastructure that builds connections between people, businesses, sectors, and cities.
