ATLANTA, Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Innotrac Corporation, a best-in-class commerce provider integrating digital technology, fulfillment, contact center and business intelligence solutions, today announced the release of a special SmartHub® study focused on online order shipping to the West Coast.
SmartHub® Benchmarking, Innotrac's proprietary industry benchmarking tool, provides clients and strategic partners with intelligence and analysis of the online retail purchase cycle. The studies evaluate over 230 leading merchants across 95 data points, tracking the entire eCommerce experience from ordering, to shipping, packaging, customer service, and returns.
"As online shopping continues to increase, retailers are looking for ways to give consumers the best customer experience possible," said Melissa O'Keefe, Sr. Director of eCommerce & Marketing at Innotrac. "A huge part of that is centered on shipping and delivery times. So we wanted to take a look at the experience for West Coast consumers since we know that most direct-to-consumer fulfillment centers are located in the center of the country. The results were quite interesting, and I think will help retailers make the necessary business decisions when it comes to delivery times."
Highlights from the study include:
- 54.7% of orders delivered to Reno, NV took more than 1 week to be delivered. As compared with only 15.7% of orders delivered to Atlanta, GA during non-peak times of the year.
- Even when you consider peak, where order delivery is significantly slower, less than 30% of Cyber Monday orders to Atlanta took more than 1 week for delivery.
- Orders delivered to Reno, NV were nearly 3.5 times more likely to take more than a week for delivery as compared with orders delivered to Atlanta.
- 61% of orders shipped to Reno, NV spent 4 or more days in transit vs. 14% that were shipped to Atlanta
Based on the analysis of ship from and to locations from SmartHub® Benchmarking studies conducted from Oct 2012 through June 2014, over a third of retailers always ship from a central location, such as the Ohio Valley. Around 20% of retailers utilize multiple distribution centers or employ omnichannel ship-from-store solutions which resulted in shipments from multiple locations without regard to the ship to location. Roughly 10% ship from either East Coast or West Coast locations based upon the ship to address. The remaining 35% always ship from a single location located either on the East Coast or West Coast or some other location.
