Inland Empire Health Plan Wins Energy Star Award for Superior Energy Performance
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., April 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Inland Empire Health Plan's (IEHP) corporate headquarters "The Atrium" in Rancho Cucamonga, California has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ENERGY STAR® certification for superior energy performance, demonstrating IEHP's commitment to continued energy savings and environmental responsibility.
ENERGY STAR is the only energy efficiency certification in the United States that is based on actual, verified energy performance. Award winners are chosen from nearly 16,000 partners that participate in the ENERGY STAR program, and the selection is extremely competitive. The ENERGY STAR award establishes that the Atrium performs better than 75% of other buildings nationwide.
"We are honored to earn the ENERGY STAR award for superior energy performance," said IEHP Chief Executive Officer Dr. Bradley Gilbert. "Energy efficiency is a top priority at IEHP, and this award communicates to our members, partners and our community that we are committed to a healthier environment today and for future generations."
ENERGY STAR certified buildings and plants are verified to perform in the top 25 percent of buildings nationwide, based on weather-normalized source energy use that takes into account occupancy, hours of operation, and other key metrics.
On average, ENERGY STAR certified buildings and plants:
- Use 35 percent less energy
- Cause 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions
- Cost less to operate than similar buildings
"Energy efficiency is pivotal to our ability to help lower costs and ensure access to quality health care to our members," said Rohan C. Reid, IEHP Executive Officer. "Built on a campus of more than 30 acres, the two-story Atrium houses 2,000 employees in more than 400,000 square feet – that's the length of more than 8 football fields. And the ENERGY STAR program provides us with the tools we need to achieve this kind of success while continuing to improve."
