Ingenuity Systems Named 2013 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingenuity Systems, Inc. announced today that it was selected as a 2013 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. The World Economic Forum's Technology Pioneers program recognizes industry-changing companies from around the world in the areas of information technology, telecommunications and new media, life sciences and health, and energy and environment for their potential to transform the future of business and society and demonstrate market leadership.
"Information technology will play an increasing role in our fight against disease, and Ingenuity has pioneered innovative solutions that enhance our ability to do groundbreaking research and deliver even better personalized patient care," said David Agus, MD, Professor of Medicine and Engineering at the University of Southern California and Chair, World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council for Genetics. "I look forward to their continued impact on world health though the Technology Pioneers program."
Over the past 20 years exponential improvements in techniques for assaying biological systems have made possible new scientific and biomedical discoveries. Yet the analysis and interpretation required to fully understand and leverage this data to more effectively manage disease, improve the quality of life and reduce healthcare spending has been lagging, thus limiting the practical utility of these advances. Ingenuity's analytical tools and integrated content unlocks this bottleneck.
"Today we can sequence an entire human genome in a day for less than a few thousand dollars but the analysis of the data could take months or years," said Jake Leschly, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ingenuity Systems. "The Ingenuity content and software enables this analysis in a matter of minutes and is fundamentally impacting scientific research and the ability to diagnose and manage disease care."
Ingenuity Systems offers a suite of products that enable researchers to make faster and better decisions that accelerate scientific discovery and drive R&D productivity in pharmaceutical and biotechnology research. The Ingenuity products are referenced in over 6,000 peer-reviewed scientific articles and in use in all top 40 pharmaceutical companies and hundreds of biotech companies and academic institutions.
The 2013 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneers' will be honored at the Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2012 in Tianjin, People's Republic of China, from 11-13 September.

About Technology Pioneers
Each year the World Economic Forum chooses 23-35 new Technology Pioneers from hundreds of applicants. Candidate companies are nominated by Members, constituents and collaborators of the World Economic Forum, and by the public. A selection committee, comprised of top technology and innovation experts, academics and venture capitalists, reviews all applications before making its recommendation to the World Economic Forum.
Technology Pioneers are chosen based on their innovation, potential impact, growth and sustainability, proof of concept and leadership. Since the Forum launched the programme in 2000, more than 500 innovative companies from around the world have been selected as Technology Pioneers. Among them, about 75% are still independent and 25% have been acquired by industry leaders.
