"It's in ING DIRECT's DNA to give back to the communities where we work and live. Since we relocated the brokerage to Seattle a year ago, we've been continually looking for ways to give back to the city. We value the opportunity to help Wing Luke Elementary get ready for the new school year," said Dan Greenshields, President of ShareBuilder.
The Orange Days of Giving projects at Wing Luke Elementary include:
- Assembly and installation of new playground equipment;
- Construction of a new student bus path;
- Landscaping and beautification (planting, pruning, edging);
- Exterior and interior painting (murals, playground games and maps, rooms and hallways); and
- Organization of school supplies.
Additionally, ING DIRECT's ShareBuilder will donate 32 whiteboards for teachers and 380 pencil boxes filled with school supplies for students.
Wing Luke Elementary, which was named for the first Asian American to be elected to the Seattle City Council, was rebuilt in 1970 as an open-concept design. More than 75 percent of its students are on a reduced/free lunch program. A significant portion of students use English as their second language.
Orange Days of Giving was created and organized in 2007 entirely by employee committees from various departments throughout ING DIRECT USA. Each year, the committees are tasked with locating unique venues and programs through which Associates can share their time and talent with the community.
