Informex Announces 'Profiles in Sustainability' Awards; Call for Entries
PRINCETON, N.J., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Informex, the leading meeting place for buyers and sellers of high-value chemistry for a broad range of applications, today announced details for its 'Profiles in Sustainability' awards and issued a call for entries. The awards, now in their second year, will be celebrated at a gala dinner to take place on the evening of February 8, as part of InformexUSA 2011, being held in Charlotte, NC, from February 7-10, 2011. In addition to the gala dinner, on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 the award winners will have the opportunity to present a technical talk during the 'sustainability conference sessions' as part of the Informex schedule.
The awards, which are open to any exhibitor or attendee of InformexUSA 2011, are designed to honor those organizations that successfully demonstrate their commitment to improving sustainability across three main categories: Product innovation; Process innovation; and 'other green innovations.' Candidates wishing to enter the award must submit a one-page paper describing their proposal which must answer the following questions:
- Which of the 12 principles of green chemistry apply to this innovation?
- Is the technology being practiced on a commercial scale?
- What makes this technology unique?
- What was the magnitude (percentage) of: cost reduction, energy savings, water usage reduction, waste reduction, solvent usage reduction, materials use reduction?
- Has there been a technical paper published?
- When was this innovation put into practice for the first time?
One additional page can be submitted for supporting pictures, diagrams and figures. The deadline for awards submissions is 5:00pm EST, December 3, 2010.
At the inaugural 'Profiles in Sustainability' awards held in February 2010, sixteen companies submitted projects for consideration that were judged based on scope and extent, environmental benefits, and economic feasibility. The five companies honored as 'Sustainability Innovators' were DSM, IoLiTec, Lonza, Segetis and The Wercs. One of the most important factors in their success, according to the judges, was that all the projects were viable – not just good ideas in theory.
"The purpose of our Profiles in Sustainability awards is not focused on simply picking winners, but rather they are designed to highlight excellence in sustainability across the board and encourage more organizations to devote resource to this increasingly critical area of operations," commented Informex Global Brand Director, Jennifer Jessup. "The awards were born from a need to recognize that sustainable chemistry is not just a passing fad or a niche branch for the chemical industry. Informex is leading the way in bringing Green Chemistry to the forefront in traditional chemical forums."
The judging panel for the Profiles in Sustainability awards 2011 includes representatives from SOCMA, the leading trade press and academia. Further information on the Profiles in Sustainability awards can be found at www.informex.com/profiles.
