InformedDNA Partners with Three New Cancer Centers to Provide Genetic Counseling
Offers turnkey solutions to help health care providers meet national cancer care guidelines
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Dec. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- InformedDNA announced today the addition of three cancer centers to its growing list of providers, who partner with InformedDNA to provide genetic counseling and risk assessment to patients seeking information about inherited cancer risk.
With the addition of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America® in Goodyear, Ariz.; Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville Tenn.; and Holland Hospital of Holland, Mich., InformedDNA now provides a full service genetic counseling program to 24 centers in nine states.
InformedDNA's turnkey solution is helping health systems and cancer centers meet the 2012 Commission on Cancer (CoC) Standards, which include a new requirement for cancer programs to provide genetic counseling and testing services to patients.
"InformedDNA provides a seamless solution for cancer centers seeking to provide the very best care for their patients," said David Nixon, Chief Executive Officer of InformedDNA. "Our model allows health care providers and their patients to access experienced genetics experts and receive the best and most personalized information about genetic cancer risk, treatment and prevention."
Genetic counseling is an important component of patient-centered cancer care. In addition to providing counseling for patients, InformedDNA counselors work directly with physicians to provide recommendations and guidelines for the care team.
InformedDNA employs a team of specialty-trained, board-certified genetics counselors who are experienced in genetic counseling for all types of inherited cancer risk. They provide over-the-phone pre- and post-test counseling to patients anywhere in the US. In addition to meeting the 2012 CoC standards, InformedDNA services enable cancer centers to achieve National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) genetics counseling standards.
"We are committed to providing our patients with all of the information they need to understand inherited cancer and their personal and family risk. We are working with InformedDNA because they are the recognized authority in genetic counseling and can offer timely access to counseling for patients making critical decisions about their health," said Julie Ebersole, Director of Oncology Patient Services at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
InformedDNA's approach also cuts in half wait times from physician referral to genetic counseling appointment. InformedDNA patients can schedule counseling appointments within 10 days—four days if surgical treatment is pending. In more traditional in-person counseling models, patients can wait several weeks for an appointment.
