InformationWeek Announces New Advisory Board Members
CIOs from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Avnet Will Help Guide InformationWeek's Editorial and Business Strategy

The new Advisory Board members are:
- Steve Phillips, SVP and CIO of Avnet, a Phoenix-based global distributor of electronics and computer equipment that has completed more than 40 acquisitions over the past decade. He is also a member of the Avnet Executive Board and a corporate officer. Before Avnet, Phillips served as SVP and CIO of Gateway Inc. He has also worked for Diageo, the international food and drinks group, where he was information technology director for its European foods division. He previously spent eight years in a variety of leadership roles at Thorn EMI, a U.K. defense-electronics company. In October 2008, he was named chairman of the board of the Arizona Technology Council, a trade association that connects, represents and supports Arizona's technology industry.
- Jerry Johnson, CIO, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), operated by Battelle Memorial Institute for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), a multi-program laboratory conducting basic and applied research to deliver energy, environmental, and national security for our nation. Jerry joined PNNL in 1978. After serving in technical and leadership roles in infrastructure and software development, he was named CIO in 2004. As CIO, Johnson is accountable to the Laboratory Director to continuously improve the deployment, use, management and protection of information resources to increase research productivity and operational effectiveness of PNNL. He is a past Chair of the DOE National Laboratories CIO Council, is a member of the Northwest Academic Computing Consortium and the Columbia Basin Dive Rescue boards, and serves on the Washington State Information Services Board as an appointee of Washington Governor Gregoire. In 2009, InformationWeek recognized Johnson in its inaugural compilation of top CIOs in federal, state, and local government: The Government CIO 50.
