Information Update - Recall of "Galenic Health Ginger in Bentonite" due to unacceptable levels of lead for children and adolescents
OTTAWA, May 29, 2015 /CNW/ - Alliance Principle Ingredients/Neutrical Solutions Inc., in consultation with Health Canada, is recalling the health product Galenic Health Ginger in Bentonite (NPN 80053535) due to unacceptable levels of lead for adolescents and children. The product currently contains levels of lead beyond permitted limits for children, but within acceptable limits for adult dosing.
Ginger in Bentonite is used to relieve digestive upset and disturbances. Alliance Principle Ingredients / Neutrical Solutions Inc. has informed Health Canada that it will change the labelling of the product to remove the indication for children.
Ingestion of lead by children in the amount found in this product may result in impaired neurological function over prolonged periods of time. These impacts may be compounded by exposure from other sources where low levels of lead are naturally found, including water and food.
Consumers are advised to speak to their healthcare practitioner if their child has used this product and they have concerns about their child's health. Consumers should also report any adverse health events to Health Canada.
Health Canada is monitoring the product recall and will inform Canadians should new information become available.
