Information Security Expert, Keith Palmgren, to Keynote SANS Seattle InfoSec Training Event
Keynote Address to Offer a Comprehensive Overview of Passwords
BETHESDA, Md., Aug. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced IT security expert, Keith Palmgren, will deliver the keynote address at SANS Seattle 2016 taking place October 3 – 8. In addition to his keynote address, Palmgren will be teaching the SANS Security Essentials Bootcamp Style course. Palmgren's keynote, Everything You Ever Learned about Passwords is Wrong, will discuss the technical and non-technical (human nature) issues behind passwords.
According to Palmgren, "The worst advice you can give your users is 'use a complex password'. Focusing on complexity instead of entropy (unpredictability) in passwords is a huge mistake. Complexity is actually a small part of the equation - yet it is what everyone focuses on. Join me at SANS Seattle where I will share details on password hashing, salts, and cracking, so that you can better understand REAL password security and how to advise users on choosing very good passwords that are also user friendly."
SANS Seattle features hands-on, immersion-style security training courses taught by real-world practitioners. Those new to the InfoSec field will benefit from SANS' SEC301: Intro to Information Security and SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp courses. For seasoned professionals SANS will offer ICS410: ICS/SCADA Security Essentials, SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, Exploits and Incident Handling, MGT514: IT Security Strategic Planning, Policy and Leadership and FOR408: Windows Forensic Analysis.
