Analyst Update: Financial Results, Collaboration, Product Approval, and Aircraft Transaction
U.S. stocks closed lower on Wednesday after Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen warned investors over elevated valuations of U.S stocks and associated potential risks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.48%, to close at 17,841.98, the S&P 500 fell 0.45%, to 2,080.15, and the NASDAQ Composite ended the session at 4,919.64, down 0.40%. Reflecting Janet Yellen's statement, European stocks saw only a modest gain on Wednesday. Germany's DAX 30 gained 0.20%, France's CAC 40 rose 0.15%, and the London's FTSE 100 closed only 0.09% higher on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Asian markets faltered again on Wednesday, depressed by weak earnings in Australia and disappointing U.S. economic data. The Shanghai Composite, Australia's S&P ASX and South Korea's KOSPI all closed lower on Wednesday.
Insulet Corporation, on April 30, 2015, announced its first quarter 2015 financial results. Revenue for Q1 2015 was $61.2 million, down 11% YoY. The operating loss was $8.6 million for Q1 2015, compared with an operating loss of $1.9 million in Q1 2014, primarily driven by a 19% YoY increase in operating expenses.
Constant Contact reported its first quarter 2015 financial results on April 30, 2015. Total revenue was $90.4 million in Q1 2015, an increase of 14.6% YoY from $78.9 million in Q1 2014. Gross margin improved marginally to 73.0% in Q1 2015, from 72.5% in Q1 2014. Adjusted EBITDA was $14.7 million, compared to $11.0 million in the same period year ago. The Company reported GAAP net income of $3.6 million or $0.11 per diluted share in Q1 2015, compared to net income of $850,000 or $0.03 per diluted share in Q1 2014.
EnerNOC, a leading provider of energy intelligence software (EIS), made an announcement on May 1, 2015 on the Company's collaboration with Tesla on the deployment and management of energy storage systems in commercial and industrial buildings. Tesla is an American company that designs, manufactures, and sells of electric cars and electric vehicle powertrain components. EnerNOC and Tesla will facilitate enterprises to monetize the batteries through demand charge management and demand response using EnerNOC's EIS. Initial collaboration will include select EnerNOC customers in California.
On April 28, 2015, Syngenta announced that it has received US EPA approval for its breakthrough corn herbicide, ACURON™. The first sales of the product to US growers will take place this year. The Company reported that in the USA, herbicide resistance, notably to glyphosate, is increasing with infestations of broadleaf weeds in corn up 50% in the past four years.
AerCap, the global leader in aircraft leasing, announced its aircraft transactions during the first quarter 2015. In its release dated April 21, 2015, the Company informed that it has signed lease agreements for 67 aircraft and delivered 32 aircraft under contracted lease agreements during Q1 2015. Meanwhile, it purchased 17 new aircraft, including 2 Boeing 787-8s, 4 Boeing 787-9s, 6 Boeing 737-800s, 4 Airbus A321-200s and 1 Airbus A330-300.
