Infinite Z and Applied Systems and Technology Transfer Partner to Stimulate STEM Education
Virtual Holography System Enables Students to Learn and Explore in 3D Open Space
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Infinite Z, Inc.®, a technology provider that enables virtual-holographic 3D imagery to bring designs to life, today announced a collaboration with Applied Systems and Technology Transfer (AST2) to provide zSpace® systems to students as part of AST2's Virtual Collaborative Learning Environment (VCLE). VCLE is a hardware and software technology platform that allows students to collaborate, communicate in real-time using social media applications and operate digitally controlled equipment remotely through virtual presence technology.
AST2 and Infinite Z will integrate zSpace systems into high school curriculum to create immersive learning environments where students can experience hands-on, next generation manufacturing. With zSpace students can directly interact with virtual holographic simulations as if they were real physical objects. The VCLE also includes rapid prototype equipment, a 3D printer and can remotely operate sophisticated equipment like a CNC milling machine.
Research on using 3D technology in the classroom has found that virtual environments help increase students' attention to the subject matter and enable better understanding of abstract concepts through interaction with objects in open space.
"Using zSpace as a tool to enable and encourage learning has always been a goal of mine because 3D virtual holography is so powerful for both visual and tactile learners," said Mike Vesely, founder of Infinite Z. "STEM education is needed more than ever as we prepare the next generation for an evolving workplace. Collaborating with AST2 to get zSpace systems in high schools as part of a collaborative learning environment is a big step forward in realizing that vision."
zSpace provides a highly realistic 3D visualization experience that enables users to work with product designs, animations and 3D simulations in a way not previously possible in a traditional 2D computing environment. Using a proprietary stereoscopic display, trackable eyewear, a new type of direct interaction stylus and an innovative software platform, objects in zSpace appear "solid" in open space, with full color and high resolution, and can be directly manipulated as if they were real physical objects. This capability gives users a natural way to navigate, grab, slice, carve, zoom and explore models as never before possible. A virtual demonstration of zSpace is available at http://zspace.com/
