IndustryWeek, a National Publication, Announces the 9th Annual 2010 IW U.S. 500 and Top 50 Best Manufacturing Companies

CLEVELAND, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- IndustryWeek, the premiere publication serving executive and operations leaders in the manufacturing industry, recently announced its annual ranking of the 500 largest, publicly held, manufacturing companies in the United States along with the Top 50 Best Manufacturing Companies.

IndustryWeek partnered with Mergent Inc. to create the 2010 IW U.S. 500 listing, a one-of-a-kind annual report ranking U.S. manufacturers based on 2009 revenue.

Mergent Inc.'s global databases were used to identify all publicly held manufacturing firms meeting IndustryWeek's selection criteria. The cutoff for inclusion on this year's IW U.S. 500 list was $882.6 million in revenues.

The IW U.S. 500 includes:

• Manufacturing companies with a majority of their business in a manufacturing industry.
• Companies that generated less than 50% of revenues from manufacturing, but more revenue from manufacturing than the lowest-revenue-producing companies on this year's list.
• Oil and gas companies that derive at least 50% of their revenues from the refining of oil and gas products.
• Companies that derive at least 50% of their revenues from the manufacture of mined materials.

IndustryWeek also announces its annual IW 50 Best Manufacturing Companies list. IndustryWeek ranked 50 manufacturers from the IW U.S. 500 list based on performance over a three-year period in revenue growth, profit margin, inventory turns, asset turnover, return on assets, and return on equity. This is the first time since its inception that IW has assigned a ranking to IW 50 Best Manufacturers.
