Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury Surf at Life Rolls On Foundation's Signature Program, They Will Surf Again
MALIBU, Calif., April 12, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than 400 individuals will gather at Zuma Beach on Saturday, April 13 as Life Rolls On Foundation, subsidiary of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, hosts "They Will Surf Again" (TWSA), a powerful afternoon that enables individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) to experience the freedom of riding a wave through the assistance of adaptive surfboards and volunteers. Surfing experience is not required, as for many, it will be their first time in the ocean.
"Life Rolls On is thrilled to offer the opportunity for people with SCI to surf," said Stevie Nicks Hutchinson, Program Manager at Life Rolls On Foundation. "But as we have been told by so many of our talented surfers, we are not just providing a day of surf and sun, we are helping them find their ability to defeat disability and to focus on the infinite possibilities that lie ahead."
"I have been surfing for many years now with Life Rolls On, but I can still distinctly remember the way I felt the first time I got in the water," said Patrick Ivison, Ambassador for Life Rolls On. "It was a completely freeing feeling and to this day that hasn't changed. I love seeing new people in the water, too, because I know they are feeling exactly what I felt and will remember it for the rest of their lives."
They Will Surf Again has made a profound impact on the lives of thousands nationwide by uniting the able-bodied and disability communities to demonstrate the "possible" despite circumstances that seem impossible. TWSA has proved that even if the body is challenged, the human spirit continues to soar. Additional event details can be found at www.liferollson.org/twsa
This program is made available at no-cost to participants through generous sponsorships by Global Surf Industries and the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA).
