Indiana's Stop-Sale System Achieves Significant Results In Battle Against Meth

LUTHERVILLE, Md., July 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) – a nonprofit organization that facilitates cooperation between law enforcement, healthcare professionals, state regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the prevention and investigation of drug diversion – today lauded the latest results achieved by the real-time, stop-sale system in Indiana.  Data released by the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) shows electronic technology in the Hoosier State during the first six months of 2012 blocked the sale of more than 57,000 boxes of medicine containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) preventing more than 132,000 grams from potentially being diverted by meth criminals. NPLEx was fully implemented in Indiana in January 2012.

"In six short months since full implementation, Indiana's electronic blocking technology continues to outperform our expectations.  NPLEx is blocking thousands of illegal sales each month, and police officers are using the data to build stronger cases and make more arrests," said Charles F.
