DECATUR, Ga., Jan. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Utility, Inc. announced today that the West Lafayette Police Department (WLPD) of West Lafayette, Indiana has fully deployed BodyWorn™ police cameras and Rocket IoT™ in-car video recording and communications systems.
WLPD joins five law enforcement agencies in Indiana in selecting BodyWorn as their official partner in implementing body camera technology.
The BodyWorn software is a complete situational awareness system with real-time mapping and communication with field assets; which includes Officers and their vehicles.
"We are thrilled to partner with Utility in deploying this cutting-edge technology to all of our officers at WLPD," said Jason Dombkowski, Chief of the West Lafayette Police Department and President of the Indiana Chiefs of Police Association. "Our department was the first police department in the state of Indiana to deploy body cameras. We are progressive in our methods of providing officer safety and accountability while continuing to strengthen community trust and wellbeing. This is why BodyWorn cameras are a game changer for law enforcement. We believe in this technology because it is unlike any other body camera in the industry. We have seen first-hand how BodyWorn's automatic recording triggers capture crucial evidence in the field. There is absolutely nothing like it."
Indiana Police Departments and Sheriff's Offices that Selected BodyWorn:
- Boone County Sheriff's Department
- Hendricks County Sheriff's Office
- Lawrence Police Department
- South Bend Police Department
- Valparaiso Police Department
- West Lafayette Police Department
"As we continue deploying our police technology on a national scale, we see that departments who choose BodyWorn, choose a system that truly enhances officer safety while strengthening the bond between their department and their community," said Ted Davis, President and CEO of Utility. "We work hard to deliver tools and features that make police officers' and Sheriff's deputies' jobs easier, safer and smarter. Our company is unique in that a large number of our employees come from law enforcement and military backgrounds. We understand what it means to put your life on the line in order to protect and serve those around you."
Both the BodyWorn camera and the Rocket IoT, singularly or in conjunction, utilize their unique communication capabilities to activate specific video recording triggers. These triggers are set by the Department's individual recording policies—including Gunshot Detection, a built-in accelerometer, prone positioning, light bar sensors in concert with door opening, rapid motion, GeoFence entry, etc.— and can be updated at any time via their video management system, AVaiL Web™.
The BodyWorn camera and the Rocket IoT system offer unique integration with real-time GPS reporting of officer and vehicle, auto-related video for synchronized video playback, dockless evidence offload and more.
Chief Dombkowski will highlight the BodyWorn camera technology at the Indiana Chiefs of Police Mid-Winter Conference, January 24-26, 2018.
