Indiana AndroGel Lawsuit Transferred to Federal Testosterone Litigation in Illinois, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports

According to an Order issued by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on February 6th, an AndroGel plaintiff who had originally filed such a complaint in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana has been denied a motion to vacate the conditional transfer of the case to the federal multidistrict litigation in Illinois. Among other things, the Order noted that the claim shares common questions of fact with other AndroGel lawsuits already pending in the federal proceeding, and that transfer of the case to the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois would serve the convenience of the parties and witness, and promote the just and efficient conduct of the federal testosterone litigation. Testosterone Heart Risks
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced a safety review of low testosterone treatments on January 31, 2014, after two studies tied the medications to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death in certain men. In September, a panel of medical experts advising the agency recommended that labeling on prescription testosterone products be adjusted to make clear their lack of proven effectiveness in treating low libido, fatigue, muscle loss and other symptoms men often experience as they age. Panelists also urged FDA to require manufacturers of testosterone replacement therapies to conduct large-scale studies of their cardiovascular side effects.*
