India Today Best Colleges Survey: Your Guide to India's Top Institutes
NEW DELHI, India, July 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
India Today Best Colleges annual survey began in 1997 to identify the top colleges in various disciplines in India. For 2011, INDIA TODAY partnered with The Nielsen Company and conducted the survey to determine the best undergraduate colleges in India in six disciplines namely Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Medical and Law.
Much of the rush in the admission season centred on India's premier university for undergraduate study, Delhi University. Unsurprisingly, most of the disappointment and hysteria of not getting admission was witnessed in the college campuses of Delhi. A careful study of India Today Best colleges survey and the rankings should be an eye-opener for those feeling left out. Delhi University's colleges are not the only centres for quality higher education in arts, commerce and sciences. A glance at the top 10 lists in arts, commerce and science is revealing: in arts and science, only four colleges in each are from Delhi University; in commerce just three are. A majority of top-notch colleges in each stream are found outside Delhi in institutions where cutoffs are more reasonable - in cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune. For arts, science and commerce colleges in 13 major cities (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune) were considered for the survey. For streams of engineering and medicine and law, colleges from all over India were considered. The overall ranking of colleges is derived based on the following parameters namely Reputation, Academic input, student care, infrastructure, placement, perceptual rank & factual rank
The survey is the most exhaustive, credible & authentic colleges' survey. It is also the most useful utility handle for student to pick the right college & career option. The survey is available online at http://www.indiatoday.in/bestcolleges in a very user friendly format. The online survey also consists of college videos & video interviews of the college principals and also offers interactive features like sharing opinions, participating in forum, sharing comments etc. Users can check out the college rankings & can also compare it with previous year rankings going back up to 2005.
