Independent Spa Values Skills of Cortiva Institute Massage Therapist Hires
BOSTON, July 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- For career-changer Linda Loughlin, a 20-year-veteran in the pediatric medical field working with children suffering with asthma and respiratory conditions, the switch to massage therapy was a smooth one.
"We often performed soothing massage on children after they had respiratory treatment to help relax the intercostals, which are in between the lungs. It was amazing to see its calming effect," she said. It was moments like those that helped Loughlin, 58, make the decision to go to Cortiva Institute School of Massage Therapy in Boston and become a professional massage therapist.
"I love the field of therapeutic massage and I've added many modalities to my tool box. I specialize in cancer massage while the client is in treatment and post treatment, reflexology, Lastone, and the most popular deep tissue with hot stones," said Loughlin.
For the past 12 years, Loughlin has been director of massage at Balance Spa based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. An independently-owned facility, Balance Spa is staffed by both full and part-time massage therapists, many of whom also attended Cortiva Institute. "We hire Cortiva grads because they are extremely well trained and the school focuses on massage therapy only. Hires from Cortiva have superior technical skills with a scrupulous work ethic and a real understanding of customer service," she added.
Loughlin believes the future of massage therapy is bright. "People are realizing the benefits of creating opportunities for wellness in their lives and taking the time to be proactive by preventing the onset of pain and illness instead of reacting with medication and surgery," she said.
