CHICAGO, Aug. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, leaders of Independent Maps, the non-partisan statewide coalition advocating redistricting reform, will announce the next steps in its campaign to require a process of drawing legislative maps that is transparent, impartial and fair.
In a party line 4 to 3 decision last week, the Illinois Supreme Court disqualified the redistricting reform amendment from the November ballot. Supreme Court rules allow the defendants to ask the court for a rehearing on points the majority overlooked or misapprehended, and the coalition will announce Wednesday whether it will petition the Illinois Supreme Court requesting a rehearing in the case.
