CHICAGO, April 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Supporters of Independent Maps, the non-partisan statewide coalition advocating redistricting reform, will hold a news conference Friday, April 29, to announce the conclusion of their signature drive.
The news conference will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hotel Allegro, 171 W. Randolph, Chicago, in the same room where the campaign was launched near the end of April last year.
The coalition will display the petitions gathered and brief reporters on the next steps in the campaign to allow Illinoisans to vote on the state constitutional amendment creating an independent commission to draw Illinois General Assembly districts in a process that is transparent, impartial and fair.
Independent maps will submit petitions with at least twice the mandated minimum 290,216 signatures of registered voters.
Participants in the news conference will include Dennis FitzSimons, Chair of Independent Maps; Christie Hefner, a Director at the Center for American Progress Action, and member of the Independent Maps board of directors; Ra Joy, Executive Director of CHANGE Illinois; and former State Rep. Kathy Ryg, a Democrat from Vernon Hills and volunteer in the petition drive.
