Independent Investigators of Nassar Abuse Publish Open Letter to Survivors
NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The independent investigators into abuse by Larry Nassar issued an Open Letter to survivors in USA TODAY and Inside Gymnastics and launched a website – NassarInvestigation.com – where their report will be published in its entirety upon completion. The website features a video conversation with the lead investigators, frequently asked questions for survivors and their families and other resources, including information on support services available for survivors through the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network ("RAINN").
Lead investigators Joan McPhee and James P. Dowden, partners at the law firm Ropes & Gray, said:
"We are conducting a comprehensive independent investigation and will make our report public in its entirety upon completion. Our goal is to provide a detailed factual roadmap of who knew what and when about Larry Nassar's abuse, and what was and was not done in response. We are investigating individual and institutional responsibility as well as systemic deficiencies, failures of oversight and contributing cultural conditions.
"The purpose of today's public outreach is to ensure every survivor knows about our independent investigation and has the opportunity to participate before we complete our work. Our hope is that the unique perspective of survivors, together with a full accounting of what happened, will help ensure that every necessary step is taken to protect athletes."
