NEW YORK, Nov. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The NHP Foundation, a national leader in providing quality affordable housing to America's working poor, elderly and families, recently held its inaugural fundraising event, "An Afternoon of Learning, An Evening of Recognition." The Symposium & Dinner was held on October 17th at Union Station in Washington, D.C.
The event honored Senators Orrin Hatch (R) UT and Maria Cantwell (D) WA , two leading proponents of national affordable housing policy, with Trailblazer Awards. Emily Cadik (Director of Public Policy at Enterprise Community Partners) and Todd Crow (Executive Vice President & Manager of Tax Credit Capital, PNC Real Estate) were also honored, receiving 2017 Affordable Housing Advocacy and Visionary Awards respectively.
"We conceived this inaugural event as a way to shed important light on the need for quality affordable housing, recognize industry leaders and raise some working capital in the process," said NHPF President & CEO Dick Burns, "But the outpouring of support and interest has been remarkable and we look forward to hosting the event annually."
Proceeds from the evening will benefit The NHP Foundation's Fund for New Development, which supports the acquisition, pre-development, development and service-enriched affordable housing properties in communities around the country.
In addition to awards, the event featured an academic study by the UVA Batten School for Public Policy "Pay-for-Success" Lab and a panel discussion. (see below for panel participants). Over three hundred attended the event including builders, policy-makers, affordable housing advocates, academic researchers, and many in the media, law, finance and philanthropic sectors. The event was made possible by the generosity and support of sixty-eight sponsors.
