Inaugural International Furniture & Decorative Arts Auctions
Freeman's and Lyon & Turnbull to host joint international auctions this October
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Freeman's, the oldest auction house in America, is eager to introduce yet another exciting sale to its annual agenda. International Furniture & Decorative Arts, which marks the company's first joint auction with Scottish counterpart Lyon & Turnbull, will have two days of sales, beginning with Lyon & Turnbull's in Edinburgh on September 28 followed by Freeman's in Philadelphia on October 7. Each sale offers a select and impressive array of furniture and decorative art predominantly from Western Europe, but also as far as India and Far East Asia.
David Walker, head of Freeman's International Furniture & Decorative Arts department, expresses, "The international sale, an annual event, is an exciting arena in which best quality examples of European furniture and decorative arts can be found. It enables consignors to showcase their fine and important furniture and decorative arts in a select, dedicated, and internationally marketed sale. For collectors, it represents an opportunity to view a choice collection of quality in one catalogue."
Highlights of Freeman's October 7 sale include a 19th Century Bronze group by A.E. Carrier Belleuse, entitled "L'enlevement d'hippodamie," estimated at $20,000-30,000. A Fine Louis XV gilt bronze mounted bureau plat and cartonnier is expected to fetch $15,000-20,000. A 17th Century Flemish historical tapestry entitled "The Triumph of Scipio Africanus" has been estimated at $10,000-15,000 and a pair of late 18th century China trade huanghuali and hardwood carved open armchairs are estimated at $4,000-6,000.
Freeman's invites all interested collectors to attend the International Furniture & Decorative Arts exhibition, showing in conjunction with English & Continental Furniture & Decorative Arts and Old Master Paintings Monday, October 3 through Wednesday, October 5. The auction will begin Friday, October 7 at 11am prompt.
