In Pursuit of the Ultimate Accuracy in Timekeeping, Bulova Introduces Precisionist at BaselWorld
NEW YORK, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- At BaselWorld, the watch world and jewelry show, Bulova Corporation introduced its newest technology platform, Bulova Precisionist, the world's most accurate watch with a continuous sweeping second hand. The new technology comes 50 years after the launch of Bulova Accutron, and is being unveiled at BaselWorld along with a Limited Edition replica of the original Accutron Spaceview 214. Bulova has also announced it will be the official timepiece partner of Cirque du Soleil™ (Varekai™) in Switzerland, and in celebration of this partnership there will be a special performance at BaselWorld choreographed specifically for Bulova.
With the launch of Precisionist, Bulova blends technology, design and style; utilizing the sweeping second hand as a visual symbol for the movement's extraordinary precision, a watch that is, in fact, designed to be noticed.
"Bulova is committed to upholding an extraordinary legacy of excellence in design, style and technology and is proud to introduce its newest technology platform, Precisionist," stated Dennis W. Perry, Bulova Corporation President." He continues, "The importance of accurate time measurement cannot be understated. In horseracing, a horse wins by the tip of a nose, in swimming, the slightest touch of a fingertip ahead of a competitor can earn a gold medal. In timekeeping, absolute accuracy has long been viewed as an important measure of the quality of a timepiece."
Precision Is In The Details
Precisionist was developed by Bulova in cooperation with its parent company, the Citizen Watch Company, in response to Bulova-led research which paved the way for the development of a technology that supports the company's goal of providing distinctive and beautifully designed watches.
The aesthetic movement of the second hand becomes the symbol to the consumer of Bulova Precisionist and signals a watch with accuracy so exceptional, you can see it. The technology is accurate to 10 seconds per year as compared to most other quartz watches, which are accurate to fifteen seconds per month.
The Precisionist technology will be available in new timepieces ranging from dress to sport to ladies' diamonds. Debuting at BaselWorld in March 2010, the timepieces will be available at retail starting Fall 2010 with price ranges between $299 and $999.
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Accutron Spaceview 214
To honor the history of both Bulova and Accutron, Bulova unveiled a Limited Edition replica of the original alpha case of the Accutron Spaceview 214. The original Spaceview 214 is one of the most prized collectibles among watch enthusiasts. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Accutron launch, the Spaceview limited edition replica of only 1,000 pieces will be sold globally at a suggested retail price of $4,000 starting Fall 2010.
When Accutron debuted on October 25, 1960 it was the most accurate timing mechanism available and the first personal timekeeping advancement in 300 years. The world's first electronic watch without springs or an escapement, it was operated by an electronically activated tuning fork, instead of a ticking it hummed.
The Bulova Accutron limited edition Spaceview 214 recreates the landmark tuning fork technology. Each hand-made replica will be presented in a specially designed wood and glass display case. The watch has a stainless steel case with a curved sapphire crystal and an alligator strap. Each watch will be inscribed with a limited edition number matched on the official plaque on the presentation case, identifying its place in the controlled production of 1,000 pieces.
The Partnership With Cirque du Soleil
The partnership will kick off with an exclusive private performance for special guests called "Precision and Beauty In Motion," at BaselWorld, the watch world and jewelry show, which was choreographed specifically for Bulova by Cirque du Soleil. The event will celebrate the launch of Bulova's newest technology platform, Precisionist. The Cirque du Soleil performers will embody Bulova's commitment to upholding an extraordinary legacy of excellence in design, style and technology, the hallmarks of its timepieces.
As an official sponsor of Cirque du Soleil in Switzerland, Bulova will be incorporated into the Varekai marketing campaign. Additionally, the brand will receive onsite exposure at the show.
