BUFFALO, N.Y., April 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Circuit Clinical™ today announced a comprehensive partnership with University at Buffalo that powers the collection, storage and genetic sequencing of vast numbers of disease-targeted biospecimens to advance innovation in drug discovery.
"This unique partnership greatly expands Circuit Clinical's capabilities in creating the medical and genomic datasets needed to develop the next generation of American medicines," said Dr. Irfan Khan, CEO of Circuit Clinical. "The goal of these collections is to help the pharmaceutical industry identify important targets and promising therapies in the years ahead."
The agreement allows Circuit Clinical to collect, store and process blood, tissue and bodily fluids for genomic sequencing and studying of the microbiome in a value-sharing model.
"With our network access to more than 1 million patients, this partnership allows Circuit Clinical to provide partners with robust data in a way that prioritizes patient empowerment, ownership, privacy, and transparency," stated Dr. Khan.
The UB biorepository is a state-of-the-art facility located in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and managed by the NYS Center of Excellence for Bioinformatics & Life Sciences overseen by executive director Dr. Norma Nowak. The biorepository program enables critical clinical science research and diagnostic development, as well as the advancement of precision medicine through deep annotation and "big data" integration.
"Circuit Clinical is the ideal partner to collaborate with, given their unique ability to identify and engage with patients interested in donating their biosamples and medical data to drive drug discovery at an early stage," said Dr. Nowak.
