Today, the Internet is rife today with identity theft, theft of funds, and misappropriation of information, including customer data. Conventional security is inadequate in many ways. Secured Sockets Layer (SSL) technology is commonly used in Internet banking, by governmental websites, and for sensitive credit card data. (Security is indicated by small icons of locks in browser windows when active.) Password and other sensitive information transmitted by SSL technology is increasingly subject to theft by keystroke loggers, i.e., Trojan horse infections via email or popup browser windows, and they surreptitiously eavesdrop on typed passwords or credit card details by users and transmit them for unauthorized access, including for e-bank accounts.
