FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Sept. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (MHA), a leading health care services and technology company focused on the alternate site health care provider marketplace, along with the Barnes Precision Specialty Pharmacy division of Barnes Healthcare Services, a complex care provider of specialty, retail, and infusion medication and ventilation services, will be sharing findings that reveal improved adherence and a decrease in infections for patients on immune globulin therapy at the 5th National Immune Globulin National Society (IgNS) Conference taking place September 15-18, 2016 in Miami, FL. The findings are the result of two joint studies on adherence and infection rate in patients being managed by pharmacies utilizing the immune globulin therapy module of MHA's Specialty Pharmacy Solutions (SPS) proprietary Clinical Therapy Management™ (CTM) patient management software application.
The findings from the two joint studies will be presented by way of two posters. The first, titled "Impact of the Clinical Therapy Management Program for Immune Globulin on Adherence for Patients at Barnes Precision Specialty Pharmacy" shows how the MHA SPS CTM software application had a positive and sustained impact on adherence as evidenced by a significant increase in the total number of fills, average number of fills per patient, and average number of grams per patient that was maintained throughout the 18 month period following implementation. The second study, "Impact of the Clinical Therapy Management Program for Immune Globulin on Infection Rate for Immune Deficiency Patients at Barnes Precision Specialty Pharmacy," reveals that enrollment into the MHA SPS CTM patient management application had a positive impact on clinical outcomes for immune deficiency patients as measured by the subsequent marked decrease in infections. The posters will be presented by Stacey Ness, PharmD, CSP, MSCS, AAHIVP, Senior Director of MHA Specialty Clinical Services, Trey Bankson, MHA, RPh, BCNP, Vice President of Barnes Pharmacy Services, and Chris Popun, PharmD, CSP, Barnes Specialty Pharmacy Manager.
Dr. Ness states, "These study findings highlight the significant positive impact on clinical outcomes as well as increased adherence that MHA SPS CTM, in combination with a pharmacy that is focused on quality care, can deliver in the immune globulin treatment space. Studies show that our CTM software application can be used to measure, validate and improve adherence and clinical outcomes as pharmacies strive toward best practices. In addition, by utilizing MHA SPS CTM, pharmacies can also easily measure, monitor, and report data insights to payers and manufacturers."
"The MHA SPS Clinical Therapy Management program is one strategy that Barnes Healthcare Services uses to manage complex therapeutic categories and work towards optimal patient outcomes and excellent customer service for all stakeholders," Karen Butterton, COO of Barnes Healthcare Services, further elaborates. "With the findings of these studies, we are able to demonstrate and quantify the improvements in adherence and clinical outcomes when using the CTM program."
