BOSTON, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Come watch as the kings of Boston comedy present the greats of improvisational and sketch comedy this spring as Improv Asylum produces a Second City revue all about Boston.
Over the past 50 years The Second City has firmly established itself in the world of comedy, launching comedic greats such as Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chris Farley, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Tina Fey and many more. A trailblazer in the world of improv and sketch comedy, The Second City has become famous for hand-selecting the comedy legends of tomorrow, today.
Improv Asylum, though much younger, has rapidly built a similarly sterling reputation in Boston. WCVB's Chronicle has said, "Chicago has Second City, now Boston has Improv Asylum." Now comedy fans can get the best of both cities as Improv Asylum and The Second City team up to give Boston its own Second City revue featuring members of both casts. This revue will run 8 shows a week from April 20th – May 9th at the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.
"Improv Asylum has over 50,000 fans. We wanted to give them more," Norm Laviolette, co-founder of Improv Asylum explains. Fans will get just that in this revue created and performed solely for Bostonians based on hot button issues and local history. It's all a part of The Second City's customized city shows in celebration of their 50th anniversary. Cities with customized revues include Atlanta, Denver, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and of course, good old Beantown.
