Imprisoning and Fining Labor Leaders and Union Members is Un-American and Non-Negotiable
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The officers of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO were shocked and disappointed to see legislation introduced that jails and fines union members and labor leaders for exercising their legally protected right to strike and constitutionally guaranteed rights of free speech and assembly. The language is contained in the Transportation funding legislation.
Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Richard Bloomingdale said, "We had heard that this was a negotiating ploy. Jail time and fines for legal activity is unacceptable, un-American, and non-negotiable."
Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder said, "We would expect this kind of attack on workers from the anti-union, ultra-right wing conservatives. That is why this is so troubling."
