IMA Announces Term Renewal for Executive-in-Residence, Gary Cokins
Longtime IMA Member to Draw on Experience, Expertise for Thought Leadership Contributions
MONTVALE, N.J., Oct. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), the association of accountants and financial professionals in business, announced today that IMA Executive-in-Residence Gary Cokins, CPIM, renewed his term for a third year. A thought leader in enterprise and corporate performance management (EPM/CPM) methods, advanced cost management and business analytics, Cokins will continue to contribute to research reports, Strategic Finance articles, learning webinars, as well as provide ongoing support of IMA's expansion in international countries including India.

Kicking off his third term, Cokins contributed his expertise to Strategic Finance's October cover story, which explores the relationship between management accountants and internal clients, focusing on the business practices necessary to become a beneficial and successful advisor to an organization. For more than 40 years, Cokins has been recognized as an internationally renowned expert, speaker and author in performance improvement systems, analytics and advanced cost management. Cokins, who earned a B.S. in industrial engineering and operations research from Cornell University in 1971 and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in 1974, began his career as a financial controller. He then entered the management consulting field with Deloitte consulting in 1981. In 1988 he joined KPMG consulting, where he was trained on activity-based costing (ABC) by Harvard Business School Professor Robert S. Kaplan. While at KPMG, he worked with Dr. David Norton on research that led to the development of the Balanced Scorecard. In 2013 Gary retired from SAS, a leading analytics software vendor, after 16 years there.
