Illinois CPA Society Honors Muhammad A. Gigani with 2011 Outstanding Leadership in Advancing Diversity Award

CHICAGO, June 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Illinois CPA Society recently honored Muhammad Gigani, CPA, Tax Senior Manager for Deloitte Tax  LLP, with its 2011 Outstanding Leadership in Advancing Diversity Award for his commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse accounting community and his role in promoting diversity at Deloitte Tax.

During his more than 11 years in the tax and accounting profession, Gigani has worked to "pay forward" the professional mentoring and support that he has received. Gigani is a founding member of the Chicago Chapter of the Deloitte Hispanic Network Business Resource Group (HNET) and currently serves as the National Practice Management Office Leader of HNET. He is also an active participant in Deloitte's counseling and mentoring programs, as well as a past Quest Award recipient, which recognizes excellence in coaching. As a direct result of his involvement with the firm's Midwest Tax Diversity & Inclusion Team, the mentoring program Careers in Motion (CIM) was rolled out to pair younger diverse employees with partners and directors for coaching and sponsorship.

In his community, Gigani is a member of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, currently acts as the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) Chicago – Deloitte Champion and is the Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the National Latino Education Institute based in Chicago, where he has helped to enhance the organization's overall position for financial viability and sustainability.

A resident of Chicago, Illinois, he received a BS degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
