Ikonopedia Launches SonoPro™ Breast Ultrasound Reporting Module at RSNA
Building on Mammography Reporting Capabilities, SonoPro Guides Physician through the Interpretive Process for Diagnostic Ultrasound
CHICAGO, Dec. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ikonopedia, today announced the launch of the SonoPro™ Breast Ultrasound interpretation and reporting module, designed to guide radiologists through the interpretive process for diagnostic breast ultrasound exams. Ikonopedia, or image encyclopedia, made the announcement here at the 99th Annual Meeting of the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA), December 1-6, 2013 (RSNA Booth 1507 – South Hall).
Delivered as a Cloud-based web application, SonoPro is based upon the teaching files of Thomas Stavros, MD, one of Ikonopedia's founders and author of Breast Ultrasound, one of the most popular reference books in the field of breast ultrasound. SonoPro guides the physician through the interpretive process for diagnostic ultrasound with an intuitive lesion locator tool designed specifically for breast ultrasound. SonoPro's image-based interface enables users to work at optional levels of specificity and automatically generates structured MQSA and BI-RADS compliant reports.
"Combined with our innovative mammography modality, SonoPro can help take breast ultrasound interpretation to a new level of quality and productivity, making good breast imagers great and great breast imagers more efficient," said Dr. Stavros.
Designed to optimize workflow for the radiologist and breast imagers, Ikonopedia has developed BreastPro, a revolutionary suite of breast imaging report generation software tools based on indexing breast findings based on what they look like rather than what they are called. As the radiologist selects images on the Ikonopedia screen that most closely match the patient's images, a structured language report is generated from a standardized lexicon.
When difficult calls are encountered, embedded reference and educational materials are immediately available via a context-sensitive, multi-media reference library drawn from the teaching files and maintained by Ikonopedia founders: Dr. Laszlo Tabar (mammography), Dr. Tom Stavros (Ultrasound), and Dr. Michael Vendrell (MR). Interactive images also allow regions of interest to be localized, and other characteristics of the patient image to be described visually. These visual cues are then automatically and seamlessly translated into a report with no dictation, no pull down menus, and no introduction of error.
By presenting physicians with visual correlation between the patient image and the closest teaching example, the system enables physicians to move quickly through the interpretive process without needing to describe findings or to check reports for transcription or grammatical errors. Shortcuts for adding required recommendations and to change the BI-RADS and breast density scores are available while adding addenda when advisable.
"Reporting high volume breast imaging modalities, such as mammography and ultrasound, has historically been compromised by inefficient point and click menu-driven report generation products or by expensive, staff-intensive workarounds. We believe that the BreastPro interpretation and reporting tools can significantly increase radiologist productivity. Simultaneously standardizing the description of findings, results in more accurate reports for referring physicians, better, more uniform data, and ultimately, better patient care," said Gerald Kolb, CEO, Ikonopedia.
About Ikonopedia
Ikonopedia, LLC was founded by three expert breast imaging radiologists: Laszlo Tabar, MD, A. Thomas Stavros, MD, and Michael J. Vendrell, MD. Ikonopedia is an image-based breast study interpretation and reporting tool designed to interface with multiple Radiology PACS and Information Systems. Selecting an Ikonopedia image icon inserts a structured language description of the lesion and its location into the report. An embedded real-time reference created and maintained by Drs. Tabar, Stavros, and Vendrell is available whenever the Radiologist might want to seek further knowledge for accurate diagnosis.
