Combined Organization is One of Michigan's Largest Multi-Specialty Physician Groups
ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- After a year-long process of due diligence and careful operational preparations, IHA, the area's leading physician group practice, and Michigan Multispecialty Physicians (MMP) PC, the area's leading private multi-specialty group practice, both of Ann Arbor, Mich., executed the final documents on Friday to complete the integration of the two organizations. From today forward, the two physician enterprises are operating jointly as IHA.
The combined organization now includes 41 primary, specialty, and subspecialty service practices serving nearly 360,000 patients at 69 locations in Southeastern Michigan, creating a structure that will strengthen even further the ability of IHA to provide a coordinated continuum of patient-centered care.
Integrating MMP brings to IHA the clinicians and staff of six area practices, including Ann Arbor Neurology, Associates in General & Vascular Surgery, Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons, Huron Valley Urology Associates, Pathology & Laboratory Management, and Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates.
"The integration is another important step in aligning our organization to best meet patient needs by maximizing both clinical outcomes and efficient, cost-effective care," notes Bill Fileti, IHA's president and CEO. "Joining forces with MMP's distinguished specialty and subspecialty practices gives IHA a depth and breadth of capabilities that is virtually unrivaled in the region, giving patients a single, trusted source for more of the medical services patients need at every stage of life."
"Healthcare is changing rapidly and around the country private medical groups are finding that affiliations with large physician groups and strong health systems allow physicians more time to care for their patients and less time being spent navigating ways to respond to reimbursement changes," says John Emerson, President and CEO, MMP. "We are excited about the growth opportunities our physicians will have as part of IHA."
Walter (Mac) Whitehouse, MD, of Associates in General & Vascular Surgery, who serves as Chair of the Department of Surgery and Medical Director of Surgical Services, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, adds that "MMP's long history of successful collaboration with IHA has been of considerable clinical benefit to our mutual patients, and working with these colleagues has been a pleasure. I look forward to an even better future with all of us now working on the same team."
"Ready and efficient exchange of information between primary, specialty, and subspecialty providers is vital to delivering the high-quality, cost-effective care that patients need and expect today," says MMP's Chief Medical Officer Meidee Goh, MD/MPH, of Huron Valley Urology Associates. "Joining the IHA team enables us to achieve this by consolidating medical information management resources and making a broader range of clinical skills easier to access."
Mary Durfee, MD, IHA's executive vice president and chief medical officer, notes that, "Bringing these teams together creates a unified clinical infrastructure with coordinated protocols and best practices, which will lead not only to better clinical outcomes but also to an improved patient experience. Integrating with the MMP team was motivated by our shared desire to deliver both quality and value to our patients. With the process complete, I look forward to seeing that vision become the reality of our day-to-day operations as we continue to enhance our service to our patients."
