IGT Honors Earth Day 2011 With Continued Commitment to Green Programs
LAS VEGAS, April 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- International Game Technology (NYSE: IGT), a global leader in creating the major games that players love and the systems that improve the player experience, celebrates Earth Day today by continuing its long-held commitment to implementing green practices at its facilities and by its employees worldwide. A global company with more than 60 offices across six continents, IGT is committed to promoting environment-friendly policies in the workplace, and this commitment is a source of corporate pride on an international scale.
At IGT, celebrating eco-friendly initiatives isn't limited to Earth Day, April 22. Instead, it's a 365-day commitment through which companywide programs recycle thousands of tons of materials each year. Some of these materials include e-waste, glass, computer chips and circuit boards, cardboard, paper and wood, scrap metals, plastics, fluorescent light bulbs, expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam packaging, NiCad and lithium batteries, chemicals used in digital processing, solvents, oils and other chemicals, office supplies and office furniture.
This Earth Day, IGT employees are encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle anything from paper and e-waste to appliances and gently used clothing. Community partners will be coordinating recycling, shredding or disposal efforts at various IGT locations.
At its corporate facilities worldwide, IGT has initiated a variety of programs focused on the reduction of energy and water consumption through the use of intelligent light sensors, energy-efficient heating and air conditioning, low-flow restroom fixtures and other eco-responsible practices. Recently the Orrick Building, the San Francisco office building that is home to the Company's Interactive division, was named the Green Building of the Year by the San Francisco Business Times. The Orrick Building is the second multi-tenanted office building in the city to have been awarded the prestigious LEED Platinum Certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
