SAN FRANCISCO, June 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- IGN Entertainment, a division of Ziff Davis, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mitch Galbraith to the role of Executive Vice President, General Manager IGN Entertainment. In this role, Galbraith will lead IGN's multifunctional and geographically dispersed team of over 150 people. Galbraith will be based at IGN's San Francisco office.
Galbraith has spent the last 17 years in digital media, working as an executive both for startups and companies at scale. He most recently served as Chief Operating Officer at Funny or Die where he was the company's first employee and worked for two four-year periods. Between those two stints, he was the co-founder and CEO of FlickMe, a Sequoia Capital-funded subscription digital movie service. Prior to his time at Funny Or Die, Galbraith was the CEO of Insider Pages, which was acquired by IAC in 2007. Galbraith's digital media career started in 2000 at Yahoo where he worked for nearly 6 years, closing as Senior Director of Business Operations.
"I've been an admirer of IGN for a long time," said Galbraith. "There are few digital publishers with IGN's pedigree: a global brand, close to 150 million monthly users, billions of annual video views, and category-leading content distributed across the web, mobile, social, and OTT. I look forward to working with the team to further advance the brand and business."
IGN Entertainment was founded in 1999, but the IGN brand goes back to 1996 when it first launched as an online gaming magazine, rapidly expanding into other verticals as well as video content production and distribution. Today, IGN programs games and entertainment content for 148 million monthly users across 12 platforms, including mobile devices, Apple TV, Roku, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. IGN's expanded content network also includes a daily destination on Snapchat Discover as well as a YouTube network with more than 10 million subscribers.
"I'm extremely enthusiastic to have Mitch join IGN at this very exciting time in the 20 year history of the brand. His background and experience in building one of the Internet's most popular video brands will help IGN accelerate its growth across original video content, social platforms, OTT distribution, as well as our continued expansion into all things fan culture," said Steve Horowitz, COO of Ziff Davis.
"I'm excited to welcome Mitch to IGN. His business acumen, in both operations and acquisitions, as well as brand and distribution growth are a perfect fit for IGN as we are continually expanding the depth and reach of our industry-leading gaming and entertainment content," added Peer Schneider, Chief Content Officer and Co-Founder of IGN Entertainment.
